Bixel Exchange and Snap Inc. launch Snap Design Academy
Earlier this month, Bixel Exchange's L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline partnered with Snap Inc. to launch the Snap Design Academy, a hands-on, 100-hour design training course for 20 students from Los Angeles area community colleges and our youth partner organizations. Each young person will participate in custom, creative workshops, fireside chats and mentorship with Snap employees and L.A. artists. The program - taught by Silas Munro, a communication arts and graphic design professor at Otis College of Art and Design - culminates with a student art showcase inspired by Snapchat's Creative Tools.

One student in the Academy shared with us that "Snap Design Academy is going to give me the opportunity to network with industry professionals and people my age who are doing what I want to do too! I think the skills and tools I learn here will be the launching pad for a successful design career. I really believe it is programs like this that help me and other students grow as people and as designers. Thank you Snap and thank you Bixel!"

b3_uber.jpgL.A. Tech Talent Pipeline participants tour Uber offices
Last night, Uber hosted an incredible panel and tour of their West Coast Santa Monica office. A diverse group of Uber representatives from the “Eats” and “Rides” side of the business shared their career journeys to Uber and all of the thoughtful work that goes into the "people-side" of the technology. Sarah Ashton, Public Affairs, Southern California, at Uber shared, "there are so many non-tech jobs in tech. It takes a lot of people to run a tech company so that it remains ethical and usable."

Those who attended the event also got the inside scoop on new transportation innovations to come from Uber, including bike share and scooter transportation options. A huge thank you to Uber for putting this all together for our L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline participants!
