Bixel Exchange engages JFK High students in Snapchat geofilter design workshop
Bixel Exchange partnered with Snap Inc. to engage nearly 30 John F. Kennedy High School students in a Snapchat geofilter design workshop on April 13. Prior to the workshop, students were tasked with creating mock-up geofilters for a nonprofit organization of their choice. Students worked with Snap graphic designers to refine their geofilters, which will be shared with each nonprofit.

Startups convene to learn legal tips on incorporation from Gust Launch
On April 13, Bixel Exchange’s Startup LAunch program hosted "Formation 101," a workshop for startup founders to learn the ins and outs of incorporation. Gust Launch Legal Solutions lead Ryan Kutter discussed legal tips, common pitfalls to incorporating, and having the equity split conversation between co-founders. Last Tuesday, Bixel Exchange and the L.A. Area Chamber’s Innovation & Technology Council heard from Jeanne Holm, assistant general manager and deputy chief innovation officer for the City of Los Angeles and senior technology advisor to L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, on smart cities. Holm discussed how L.A. is utilizing new and innovative ways to efficiently serve, engage and connect the public to local government while being cost-effective, including tools like the City Hall Internet Personality (CHIP) chatbot. Attendees also heard how these advances in technology can benefit and grow L.A.’s business community.

Foster youth tour Riot Games
On April 12, a group of our L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline internship candidates from Five Keys Charter School and Aspire Ollin University Preparatory Academy attended a Riot Games video game design workshop and tour supported by The Aspen Institute’s Forum for Community Solutions and the Pritzker Foundation’s Foster Care Initiative. The cohort consisted mainly of foster youth and the event was made possible with the help of URBANTxT, SafePlace for Youth and iFoster. A HUGE thank you to Riot Games – this was the last tour of the school year!

Postmates releases Economic Impact Report
Postmates has released their first annual Economic Impact Report, detailing their work in 2017 and showcasing how on-demand technology is helping Los Angeles brick-and-mortar retailers compete in the era of Amazon and e-commerce. In 2017, Postmates powered the sale of $1.2 billion worth of goods by local businesses. Read the report.
