On Nov. 28, Startup LAunch hosted “Build A Unique Brand That Attracts,” a workshop at the L.A. Area Chamber. Robyn Young, founder and head of strategy at Robyn Young & Co., led the talk focused on brand strategy, finding your target audience and customer engagement. Our entrepreneurs practiced their pitches and collaborated to define their brands, and walked away with the framework to create their own brand strategy.

Bixel Exchange releases new IT report at Tech Salon
On Nov. 14, Bixel Exchange hosted Tech Salon: How To Get A Tech Job In Los Angeles with presenting sponsor California State University, Northridge (CSUN). As part of an innovative partnership with LinkedIn and the City of Los Angeles, Bixel Exchange released “Building L.A.’s Tech Talent Pipeline: A Sector Report on the Information Technology Industry” during the event. The report looks at the current industry skill sets, hiring trends and career pathways for L.A.’s tech workforce.

After a presentation of key findings with LinkedIn head of U.S. public policy, Nicole Isaac, leaders in L.A. tech and education, including the Center for a Competitive Workforce, Cornerstone OnDemand, Hyperloop One, GoGuardian, Boingo Wireless, City of Los Angeles' Education & Workforce Development Department and CSUN, convened to discuss how the public and private sectors can best bridge L.A.’s IT skills gap.   Women Transform Tech at City National Bank
Dec. 6 | 3:15 – 8 p.m.

Come join us at City National Bank on Dec. 6 to transform tech for child safety at Women Transform Tech. Your challenge will be to transform child safety efforts with technology to tackle problems around information access and sharing across government agencies. AnitaB.org, NASW-CA Tech Council and a host of other organizations will bring together teams of child advocacy specialists and technologists to create solutions. Transformational leaders, who focus on both technology and the ways we can use it for social good, will share their experience and give feedback on the solutions.

 
Hustle N' Code: Rise Up for Upward Mobility
Dec. 9 | 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Come learn and let your ideas run wild at the 5th annual Hustle N’ Code Hackathon! The Hustle N’ Code Hackathon is designed to inspire more than 100 underserved students from the Watts community to come up with creative solutions that address community-based problems and strengthen their community through introducing them to computer programming. This event is open to all youth ages 14-18. The students will work with mentors during the Hackathon to learn to code and develop solutions to these problems. Play a key difference and be a part of this unique education event by signing up to be a participant, volunteer or mentor. Help bring diversity to tech!

  Child Abuse Prevention Hackathon
Dec. 9-10

Child abuse exists across all communities. With this in mind, how can technology play a role in reducing child abuse and other forms of violence? More importantly, how can technology influence the response process when most government agencies and nonprofit offices are only open during the standard work week? During this hackathon, subject matter experts in child abuse, domestic violence and violence intervention/prevention will be paired with hackers to explore the possibilities, and bring solutions to the forefront.
