Hello friend --
Bixel Exchange kicks off the L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline initiative with Mayor Garcetti
On June 13, Bixel Exchange celebrated the official launch of Mayor Garcetti’s L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline initiative at an event hosted at General Assembly DTLA. The L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline — a partnership between the Mayor and Bixel Exchange — is a component of the HIRE LA’s Youth program, and brings together public and private sector partners to expand training and job opportunities for the next generation of talent. Beginning this summer, the pipeline will place at least 100 young Angelenos in tech jobs. Read the full press release.
The event featured a roundtable discussion on the current state of tech career pathways for students in L.A. with LinkedIn, educators and business leaders, and student workshops. A special thank you to LinkedIn, Data 360, Boingo Wireless and mitú for hosting and participating in our workshops and panel. View the LinkedIn digital report. See the photos.
L.A. area high school students earn opportunity to design with Snap
Snap Inc. and Bixel Exchange partnered once again — this time for the Snapchat Sticker Pack Design Challenge, a region-wide competition for local high school design students. As part of the competition, Bixel Exchange reached out to more than 60 high schools in the greater L.A. area and encouraged students to show off their creativity by submitting three custom Snapchat designs that represented a 'Day in the Life of a High School Student.' After receiving an overwhelming number of entries, the top 20 Snapchat Sticker Pack Design Challenge student finalists visited Snap headquarters in Venice, and worked closely with Snap designers on enhancing their designs and creating new stickers. This proved to be an invaluable experience for the students as they had the opportunity to interact with top talent from Snap, learned tips and tricks, and asked questions about design and career pathways to a tech company leader like Snap.
